Medical Mnemonics

A collection of mnemonics that have helped me not fail out of med school. It’s a work in progress, so check back for updates! You’ll notice a common theme among many of these…there’s a reason they stuck.

Cranial Nerves: “Oh Oh Oh, To Touch And Feel Virgin Girls Vaginas and Hymens” (“Virgin Girls” can be switched to “Very Good” or “Various Girls” to suit your preference.) — Olfactory, Optic, Oculomotor, Trochlear, Trigeminal, Abducens, Facial, Vestibulocochlear, Glossopharyngeal, Vagus, Accessory, Hypoglossal.

Cranial Nerve Function: “Some Say Marry Money But My Brother Says Big Boobs Matter More.” — S = Sensory, M = Motor, B = Both

Layers of the epidermis: “Big Sluts Get Lucky Constantly” — basale, spinosum, granulosum, lucidum, corneum.

Bones of the Wrist: “Some Lovers Try Positions That They Can’t Handle” — Scaphoid, Lunate, Triquetrum, Pisiform, Trapezium, Trapezoid, Capitate, Hamate

Synovial Joint Elements: “Some Are So Mother Fucking Jolly” — Skeletal elements (at least 2), Articular Cartilage, Synovial Membrane and Fluid, Joint capsule

TCA/Kreb’s Cycle: “Can I keep selling sex for money, officer?” — Citrate, isocitrate, aplha-ketoglutarate, succinyl-CoA, succinate, fumarate, malate, oxaloacetate.
